( Note: This is the second response I got to my request, presumably accidentally. The first respons is in D03883l Full exemption SAP 57970.doc ) Subject: Financial information request Date: Thu, 19 Oct 2006 14:14:58 +0100 From: "Tony Gray" Dear Francis Ref: 57970 Firstly I apologise for the lateness of this response, an unforeseen absence being the main culprit. I trust that the information is still of value. Thank you for your email dated 18 July 2006 requesting a: * Breakdown of staffing costs by department * Breaking down of all of the £45,381,000 other operating charges, rather than just part of it. * Detailed breakdown of sales by sector. We are pleased to provide you with the following information with regard to your request. Please note that your enquiry has been processed to Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) guidelines. Breakdown of staffing costs by department Analysis of staff costs by business units are as follows: Finance = £3.0m Strategy = £2.1m HR & Corporate Services = £3.4m Technology Group = £8.1m Data Management & Capture = £19.9m Sales & Marketing = £8.2m Production & Products = £8.9m Total = £53.6m Breakdown of operating costs by department Accommodation Costs = £4,514,265 Production and distribution = £20,370,547 Information Technology costs = £6,531,145 Marketing = £2,923,028 Financial = £1,136,195 General Office Expenses = £2,309,224 Other Staff related = £4,755,730 Stocks/ WIP (inc)/dec = -£50,054 Operating leases = £2,648,262 Research and development costs for t/a = £0 Auditors' remuneration and expenses = £77,000 Hospitality and catering = £168,846 Foreign Exchange rate gains/losses = -£3,011 = £45,381,178 Detailed breakdown of sales by sector Under FOIA, section 1 states that "Any person making a request for information to a public authority is entitled" to be informed whether they hold the information and, if so, to have that information communicated to them (subject to any relevant exemption). We therefore provide the following response under the FOIA. In this instance your request falls within the "Commercial interests" exemption under section 43 of the FOIA. We believe this exemption applies because to release the detailed breakdown of sales by sector would severely prejudice Ordnance Survey's commercial interests. We have determined that in all the circumstances of this case, the needs of the Public Interest would not be served by prejudicing Ordnance Survey's ability to operate efficiently and effectively as a Trading Fund and its capacity to meet the financial targets set for it by Ministers under the terms of the Ordnance Survey Trading Fund Order 1999. Therefore I regret to inform you that Ordnance Survey will not be providing the requested information to you. If you are unhappy with our response, you may raise an appeal to our Appeals Officer at: Customer Service Centre Ordnance Survey Romsey Road SOUTHAMPTON SO16 4GU Please include the reference number above. The Appeals Officer will ensure that the process has been followed correctly, questioning any decisions taken regarding the original response and recommending disclosure of additional information if appropriate. Thank you for your enquiry. Yours sincerely Tony Gray FOI Advisor| Ordnance Survey
